MOVING TO-DO LIST
1. Be organised and have countdown targets
Do not leave a lot of things undone until the last minute. By probability, one knows about the move weeks before. Therefore, have an itemised list of what has to be achieved and by when.
2. Strategise on how you are going to move
If you are to use a moving company, book in time and be clear as to what you are moving.
- Prepare an inventory list or get a blank form from the moving company.
- Specify the pick-up and drop-off points or you may put names of the places in general.
- Specify if there are some stairs or not ie is it a ground floor to ground floor move, if not, are there some elevators?
- Specify the intended day and time of the move
- Specify if there are pets to be moved.
- Specify if you would need packing & wrapping services.
- Specify if there are heavy assets that require more than 3 members of a moving company e.g piano, safe, side-by-side fridge etc
- Specify the truck tonnage restrictions and any other restrictions relevant
- Any assembling and disassembling required be specified
- Make sure the arrival and departure times are permissible in the complex
- Understand the terms of payment
3. Unnecessary stuff
Sell/ donate the stuff you no longer need in time.
4. Take any inventory of what has been loaded
You can number the items according to the rooms they will occupy.
5. Label all items
All sides of a box need labelling.
6. Have a moving day kit
Keep one box of essentials aside for items you will need on a moving day e.g. cleaning supplies, light bulbs, garbage bags, toiletries etc.
7. Insurance
Insure valuables or check with the moving company if they are insured. Understand the terms and conditions of insurance.
